Or maybe this isn’t your first spin on the dance floor and you are looking to bring your skills to the next level?

Our class curriculum is designed to help students of all levels!

This season, we offer the following technique-focused classes for the following age groups. Age is based on their age as of December 31 of the current dance season (which starts each September) however, students may be recommended in different groups based on experience and skill.

  • Primary 1 for ages 5-6, Primary 2 for ages 7-8

  • Junior for ages 9-11

  • Intermediate for ages 12-14

  • Senior for ages 15+

  • Or otherwise noted on the schedule

Ballet
Students will do work "at the barre" with a series of combinations to build technique and warm up the body. They will learn different technical combinations, as well as centre and across the floor work. Combinations in the centre and across the floor will help students build on their performances.

Tap
Students will learn single sound movements, and put them together into fun combinations, and across the floor work. As they progress, they will incorporate more double and triple sounds into their tap work. Class will begin with a warm up either in the centre or "at the barre".

Jazz
One of the most popular styles of dance, Jazz is technical, entertaining, and lively. Students will do work “at the barre” to build technique and then move into across the floor work. This class includes Hip Hop elements while leaps, turns, flexibility, and musicality are the focus.

Acro
Combining gymnastics and jazz movement gives us a super fun class! This program is designed for dancers who want to increase their flexibility, control, and strength. Dancers will be shown how to execute tricks properly and safely.  Students will blend dance and gymnastics in an expressive and creative way.

Other Dance Disciplines

Hip Hop
For ages 8+: Students will learn a mix of "old school" and "new school" Hip Hop moves in this class. Fun across the floor work, centre work, and combinations will be done to chart-topping hits, as well as some classic Hip Hop tunes!

Musical Theatre
For ages 6+: Lights, camera, action! Musical Theatre brings Broadway to you by combining dramatic and vocal elements with dance. Learn to dance, lip sync, and act to all your favourite hits and show tunes (no singing voice required!).

Lyrical
For ages 8+: Inspired by individuality and interpretation of lyrics, dancers are asked to find meaning in their movement. Technique and emotion are the focus of this class.

Contemporary
Senior-only class: A style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • These classes are for both Recreational & Competitive students and are coloured on the schedule.

  • We are putting a focus on quality of dance and so each dance discipline will have a regular class that covers Technique & Choreography. These are for anyone who wants to learn/develop in that style of dance. These classes focus on increasing technical skills and strength then spend time on choreography.

  • There are different levels for each dance discipline, organized first by age based on the discipline’s official curriculum and then by ability second. Age is only one consideration in placing our dancers in the correct class as we aspire for each student to succeed and maximize their potential. Students will move on to the next level according to their own progression and with the recommendation of the Studio Director and instructor. All four main dance styles will follow a strict syllabus for each level to ensure the best quality dance education.

    • Tap, Jazz & Ballet align with the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (ADAPT) syllabus.

    • Acro aligns with the Acro Dance Teacher's Association (ADTA) syllabus.

  • Please note that how class times are used is subject to change based on the needs of the students throughout the season.
