Below you will find the standard discipline outfits and hair guidelines. Specific hairstyles for competitions will be provided. If you are dancing in multiple classes in one night, please ensure your have the correct shoes, hair tied back, leotard (girls)/shirt (boys), and tights (girls)/shorts or pants (boys). You do not need to change tight colours between classes.

Proper dance wear enables the teacher to see the dancers' positions and movement in order to give necessary corrections for the benefit of the dancer's education. 

IMPORTANT: Based on final costume selection, dancers may require different coloured tights, jazz shoes or Lyrical footwear to wear at competitions then what is listed below. We aim to communicate the final choices for each dance by November, after costume selection is complete.

Dancers are welcome to purchase tights from whichever retailer they choose to wear to class, however all competition tights must be ordered through the studio to ensure consistent colour and style for continuity on stage. Dancers will be required to order at least two pairs per style to bring to  competitions.   • Ballet:

    • Any colour leotard (preferably black - no long sleeves), ballet pink tights, and ballet skirt if the dancer chooses. Hair is to be in a bun, or secured off face, if short.

    • Shoes: dancers are encouraged to wear full sole ballet shoes to class but split sole leather with a single elastic is required for comp (full sole promotes the dancer to work their arches more and ensure strong pointed toes).

    • Boys: Black shorts or pants, white shirt (tank or short sleeved), and black ballet shoes.

  • Pointe:

    • Any colour leotard (preferably black), ballet pink tights, pointe shoes, and ballet skirt if the dancer chooses. Hair is to be in a bun, or secured off face, if short.

  • Jazz:

    • Any colour leotard (preferably black - no long sleeves). Small black shorts are permitted. Beige tights. Hair is to be tied back in a ponytail, bun or french braid(s).

    • Shoes: split sole jazz shoes. Students may wear beige or black for class however once costume selection is completed, required colours for comps will be provided in November (you may need beige and black, depending on how many jazz numbers you are in and the chosen costumes).

    • Boys: Black shorts or pants, white shirt (tank or short sleeved), and black jazz shoe.

  • Tap:

    • Any colour leotard (preferably black - no long sleeves). Small black shorts are permitted. Beige tights. Hair is to be tied back in a ponytail, bun or french braid(s).

    • Shoes: must be black and lace up

      • Minis, 8 & Under: full sole.

      • 9 & Older: split sole.

    • Boys: Black shorts or pants, white shirt (tank or short sleeved), and black lace up tap shoes.

  • Hip Hop & Breakdance:

    • Students may choose whatever active wear they like as long as it's not restricting to movement (eg. jeans) and is not distracting to the dancer (eg. loose shirts that get in the way).

    • Clean, indoor running shoes or hip hop boots/shoes. No shoes worn outside will be permitted in the studio.

    • Hats encouraged. Hair must be off the face.

    • Hip Hop shoes will be ordered separately.

  • Contemporary / Lyrical / Musical Theatre:

    • Students may wear any dance clothing in these classes. This includes leotards, leggings, tights, shorts, fitted tank top that will not rise up with movement as this is distracting to the dancer.

    • Shoes:

      • Contemporary/Musical Theatre: Foot Undies, dance performance approved socks, or bare feet.

      • Lyrical: same as above for class. For competition, dancers will need Foot Undies or Half Soles depending on final costume selection.

    • Hair must be off the face in any style of the dancer’s choosing during class.

  • Musical Theatre:

    • Any colour leotard. Beige tights. Small black shorts are permitted. Hair is to be tied back.

    • Shoes:

      • Minis, 8 & Under: Tan jazz shoe

      • 9 & Older: Black jazz shoes.

    • Boys: Black shorts or pants, white shirt (tank or short sleeved), and black jazz shoe.

  • Acro:

    • Any colour bodysuit, beige footless tights. Small shorts are permitted. Hair is to be in a low braid.

    • Boys: Black shorts or pants, white shirt (tank or short sleeved).

Additional items may be needed for competitions and will be advised as needed. Any additional costs will be the responsibility of the family.
