Dance competitions are an incredible opportunity for personal growth, helping children excel in something they love while fostering a sense of achievement. Being part of a competitive dance team offers benefits that extend far beyond improving dance skills—it builds confidence, discipline, and resilience, while encouraging creativity, teamwork, and lifelong friendships. Dancers develop valuable life skills like adaptability, accountability, and leadership, all while staying active, expressing themselves artistically, and creating unforgettable memories on stage.

Competitive dance spans multiple disciplines, including acro, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, musical theatre, and tap. Dancers perform as groups, solos, duets, or trios before panels of judges at various out-of-town competitions. Our competitive dancers dedicate themselves to rigorous training throughout the season, refining their technique, enhancing their strength, and perfecting their performance skills to shine on every stage they step onto.

At RMAD, we are proud to provide the opportunity for a variety of ages to excel and grow in this higher level of dance education and competition.

The RMAD Competition Team is sponsored by an incredible list of local businesses and organizations which have also contributed to more students being able to join the Comp Team.

2025/26 Competition Team

For the 2025/26 season, all 2024/25 Comp Team members are invited back! Simply email us by June 14th to discuss which styles your dancer is interested in.

Dancers 4 years old or older (by December 31 this year) who were not part of the team last season who are interested in joining the team simply need to email us before June 14, 2025, to let us know what styles you are interested in competing in and we will advise on the next best steps for your dancer based on what’s available and their experience.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Jazz, Tap, and Ballet Technique Classes: All Competition students must register for and attend weekly technique classes in Jazz, Tap, and Ballet regardless of what competition routines they are competing in.

    • Dancers 4 and under must attend Mini Movers and Tiny Tap.

    • Intermediate and Senior families: We understand not everyone has extensive experience in Tap or Ballet. Let’s discuss what’s best for your dancer.

  • Acro Technique Class: Students participating in a Competition Acro routine must also attend the separate weekly Acro technique class to build the necessary strength, flexibility, and skills.

This ensures their technique is being developed and allows for the comp rehearsal class time to focus on choreography. Click here for more details on this season’s technique classes.

Students must compete in Jazz and one additional foundation style—either Tap or Ballet. All other styles remain optional but and are highly encouraged.

Solos, duets and trios are offered based on previously demonstrated skill, attitude and commitment, among other reasons.

It is important that everyone who accepts the team offer can commit to attending all classes, the showcase and competitions. If you have four or more unexplained absences, you may be dismissed from the team with no refund for any comp or costume fees paid. You may also be responsible for any outstanding comp fees or costume fees even if you will not be attending the competition(s).

Accommodations:

  • We highly recommend you book your hotel rooms by October 1st (or as soon as dates are confirmed) to secure your room - they sell out quickly.

  • If Host Hotels are listed they are not mandatory to stay at - choose what works for your family.

    • Not all competitions organize a host hotel - don’t delay booking waiting to see if they do.

Please note up to two additional competition locations may be selected by September 30th. Typically, Solos, Duets & Trios (small comp team group) attend these comps and is a way for our studio to scout out new competitions while showcasing the Solos, Duets & Trios. They are optional for the small comp team group to attend. Competitors may choose to attend both or one or none.
