Recital Dress Code
1. Where to Buy Dance Wear
Dancers are welcome to purchase dance wear and tights from whichever retailer they choose to wear to class.
Based on final recital/competition costume selection, dancers may require different coloured tights to wear at recitals than what is listed below to ensure consistency in costuming.
We do encourage families to purchase tights through our order forms, where our supplier is providing high-quality dance tights at a great price. Not only will you spend less on these tights than most other dance tights, it will also mean that each dance class will have a more consistent look on stage.
Please know that ripped tights are not permitted at recital.
To order through our studio, please download the order forms and follow the included instructions:
There are many second hand shoes in our lobby available to borrow until no longer in use. Please return them when done with them.
You can often find great second hand dance wear in the KL and Area Dance wear sale/Exchange Facebook group that are suitable for class time.
2. Class Dress Code
To set your dancer up for success in, it really does start with dress code. Being in the proper “dance wear” will put your dancer into “dance mode.” And that’s when they can really put their focus into learning, growing, and perfecting their abilities.
Proper dance wear also enables the teacher to see the dancers' positions and movements in order to give necessary corrections for the benefit of the dancer's education while also ensuring safe execution of the moves.
Dancers not wearing the proper attire may be asked to sit the class out.
Below are basic direction applicable to classes.
HAIR
Make sure your dancer has their hair pulled back and out of the way so that it doesn’t become a hindrance or get in their way. The best hair solution often depends on your individual dancer and their hair. For example, very long hair does best in a low bun or braid so that it doesn’t get stepped on. Shorter hair will be just fine in a ponytail.
UNIFORM
Form-fitting dancewear works best (leotard/bodysuit, shorts and tights). Your dancer will feel more secure, and stay covered, if they are wearing something that stays in place, no matter what trick the
y are working on. It will also allow the teacher to see and correct their form.
JEWELRY
Jewelry and dance don’t mix well. For the safety of your dancer, and the teacher, only stud earrings are allowed.
FOOTWEAR
Please follow the Recital Dress Code.

Clean, indoor running shoes or hip hop boots/shoes. No shoes worn outside will be permitted in the studio. Hats encouraged. Hair must be off the face.
Lyrical / Musical Theatre:
Students may wear any dance clothing in these classes. This includes leotards (preferably black), leggings, tights, shorts, fitted tank top that will not rise up with movement as this is distracting to the dancer. Foot undies, dance performance approved socks, or bare feet for all classes, except Musical Theatre which require tan jazz shoes. Hair must be off the face in any style of the dancer’s choosing.
