Comp Team Showcase

Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for dancers and families to enjoy the experience. All the details and answers to your frequently asked questions should be found below.

Volunteers are essential to recitals. If you are able to help for any part of the show, please comment on this post or contact info@rhythmmotiondance.com before March 26th. If you have volunteered, the details of where to be and when will be posted in the RMAD Comp Forum.

As of 10 AM the day before the showcase, messages to the Facebook Page, group and email will not be monitored. Be sure to get your questions in before then.

TEAM PREP MEETING

Mar 22nd at 11:30 am.

Ahead of the Showcase and Competitions, we ask that all comp parents/caregivers attend. Students are not required (unless they are older and will be dressing themselves - then this would be good for them to attend too). Young ones are not required.

We will be going over important topics to ensure a successful comp season - this will be especially important if you are new this year but also helpful for all as we clarify expectations and go through some changes.

WHERE & WHEN

Sunday, March 30th

The Showcase will be split into 3 parts:

1:30-3:30 pm Soloists: senior and junior

3:45-5:45 pm Soloists: intermediate and mini

6:00-8:00 pm Groups

  • Please arrive and be ready (hair, makeup, earnings) at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the show. This ensures everyone is set up, settled, and ready to go on time.

Northern College Auditorium (140 Government Rd E)

TICKETS

  • Tickets are $20 each, reserved seating (pick your seats) and will be available on a first come, first served basis (no holds) at the studio ahead. We strongly encourage you to buy your tickets ahead as they often sell out. Remaining tickets will be available at the door. Please don’t delay - we can never predict who many tickets will sell and how fast. Don’t chance not having a seat.

  • Miss Alison is giving ALL dancers a pass to the soloist shows (1:30 & 3:45 pm shows). A ticket is required for anyone who uses a seat at the Groups show (6pm show) - This includes dancers who want to watch when they are not performing.

  • Payment via cash. Tickets are not refundable, per our policies.

  • Ticket sales dates will be communicated via email and our Facebook Page.

VIDEOS & PHOTOS

  • Audience members may video or take photos of the performances. Please no flash, do not block the isles and remain in your seats.

  • Videos CANNOT be shared or posted publically until after the final competition in May.

IMPORTANT RULES FROM THE VENUE

  • All dancers are expected to remain calmly in their change rooms and are not to be running.

  • Zero roaming around the halls or attempting to enter any other classrooms or the gym. They are not part of our rental agreement.

  • No food or beverage in the auditorium, per the venue’s rules.

  • Clean up after yourself in the changerooms and ensure no garbage is left behind.

  • Failure to follow the rules will result in additional charges from the venue which will result in increased recital ticket prices in the future.

GENERAL INFO

Please review these details with your dancers so they also know what is expected of them.

  • IMPORTANT: Dancers must be in their designated change room, ready to perform, 5 songs prior to their dance or 10 minutes before show start time. When dancers arrive, they must report (verbally check in) with the volunteer, as not all volunteers know all the kids. Volunteers will then be able to confirm attendance and get them organized and to backstage. We don’t want anyone to miss their performance so please don’t be late. If dancers are not present and ready when their group is taken backstage, they will miss their performance, as the volunteers do not have time to go looking for dancers.

  • Volunteers are in each change room with responsibilities to organize each class.  They are not there to babysit so it’s important that you do not leave your dancer unattended until 5 songs prior to their dance or when volunteers begin lining them up and getting them ready to be brought backstage. Then you can head to your seat with time to watch their performance.

  • Parents are not permitted backstage. Know that their teachers or volunteers will be with them.

  • A volunteer will bring your dancer back to their change room after they have performed, where you need collect them as quickly as possible if they are done dancing. Again, volunteers in the changerooms are not there to monitor unattended dancers so we ask that you are there as soon as you can exit the auditorium (if not right after their song then the next one).

  • Once the dancers return to the change rooms, they need to quickly get ready for their next dance (if applicable). If they cannot get ready on their own, please ensure you meet them in the change room to assist them.

  • If your dancer is not in any more dances, please change as quickly as possible and return to your seat in the audience to cheer on the rest of the dancers (or leave if you are not staying). This helps reduce the congestion and confusion in the change room. Again, the volunteers are not there to monitor the kids so we ask that you meet them as soon as you can.

  • Parents/spectators are not allowed to enter/leave the auditorium during performances – doors will only be open between songs.

  • It’s strongly encouraged that you do not eat or drink in your costumes.  Either remove your costume or cover it with your own clothing prior to eating or drinking (and stick to less messy food).

Where should you get your dancer ready?

  • Minis & Primary: boardroom to the right of the main college entrance

  • Juniors & Intermediate: board across from the men’s restroom, near backstage

  • Seniors: changeroom below stage

  • Boys: if a change is required, please use the boys bathroom and then check in with the appropriate aged changeroom manager (simply knock on the door for them to know you are there). NOTE: if anyone has a room divider then we have another idea - please message us info@rhythmmotiondance.com.

  • Change rooms are not co-ed, for any age range.

    • This means that male siblings must wait outside of the girls’ change room and vice versa.

    • Dads/men will not be permitted in the girls’ change room and vice versa.

    • We know there are many great men supporting their dancers but due to limited room use at this venue some families may need to utilize the bathrooms to change kids (if you have a boy and girl and no one else to watch one while you help the other). Simply work with the changeroom volunteers to make it easy for both of you.

Where you can, we encourage you to arrive with your dancer dressed for the stage.

Important

  • Stand back! Don’t stand in front or near the doors, inside or outside of the rooms. You may get smacked with a door when a dancer comes flying in to change quick for their next dance or hinder their ability to quickly get in and out.

  • Privacy! Please keep the change room doors closed so people can change without concern.

  • Quiet please! In and out of the change rooms, it’s important that there is no yelling. Volunteers may need to use their loud voices to organize dancers and if others are being loud, people may not hear the volunteer or the sound may carry to the stage.

  • No running or yelling in the hallway. People can actually hear you in the auditorium, plus see point above.

  • Clean up after yourselves. Don’t leave garbage behind, ensure you have all your belongings and be respectful of the space.
