2024 Winter Showcase
Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for dancers and families to enjoy the experience. All the details and answers to your frequently asked questions should be found below.
Volunteers are essential to recitals. Thank you to all who have volunteered. More are needed if you can help. The assignments will be detailed in the private parent Facebook group.
REHEARSAL
Friday, December 13th, 4 - 6:30 PM.
Boogies, Mini Movers, Tiny Tap and Kinder Acro can come from 5 - 6 PM.
Will take place at the studio.
SHOWCASE RECITAL
Saturday, December 14th, 2 PM
Northern College Auditorium
All recreational classes, from Boogie Babies to Acro tricks, will be performing. No comp groups will be performing.
Saturday classes:
Boogie Babies and Mini Movers classes will run at the studio, per normal schedule.
Mini Comp will run 11am - 12pm.
All other Saturday classes Tiny Tap & are cancelled.
HOWEVER we ask and encourage all Saturday dance students to join Sir Zac at the college for a warm up on the stage to help them prepare for being on stage. Please be there for 1:30pm. We encourage dancers to be in costume as well (reduces rushing afterwards).
TICKETS
Tickets are $20 each, cash only. There are very few remaining tickets. Email rmadbyalison@gmail.com before December 12th if you still need tickets. First come, first served.
Due to capacity limits and venue costs, every one entering the auditorium needs a ticket. This includes dancers who want to watch when not performing.
Tickets are not refundable, per our policies.
VOLUNTEERS
Recitals can’t run without help. The recital volunteer coordinator is organizing via our Private Parent Facebook Group. Head there to help (if you don’t have Facebook, please email us before December 12th).
Volunteer schedule is here.
FUNDRAISING
The fundraising committee will have the following for sale before recital and during intermission, along with a few other items. Please let your family and friends know ahead. There are limited amounts of each item and it will be first come first serve (no pre-orders). Cash and E-transfers to rmadfundraising@gmail.com are accepted payment methods.
It’s tradition to gift your dancer with a token like these to celebrate a performance like this.
Flowers $5.00
Lanyards $10.00
Pins $5.00
Pictures of items available via our Facebook Page.
Cookie Kits: if you ordered kits from our last fundraiser, the dancer/parent who placed the order will need to pick up AFTER the showcase. A volunteer will be in the lobby for 30 minutes post-recital. If you will not be at recital, please email rmadfundraising@gmail.com before December 12th. Please do not have your buyers come to pick up the kits. The pick-up is not organized that way and we do not want to chance confusion and lost kits.
VIDEOS & PHOTOS
Audience members may video or take photos of the performances. Please no flash, do not block the isles and remain in your seats. We would love to see them so be sure to tag us if you post them.
IMPORTANT RULES FROM THE VENUE
No food or beverage in the auditorium, per the venue’s rules.
All dancers are expected to remain calmly in their change rooms and are not to be running.
Zero roaming around the halls or attempting to enter any other classrooms or the gym. They are not part of our rental agreement.
Clean up after yourself in the changerooms and ensure no garbage is left behind.
Failure to follow the rules will result in additional charges from the venue which will result in increased recital ticket prices in the future.
GENERAL INFO
Please review these details with your dancers so they also know what is expected of them.
IMPORTANT: Dancers must be in their designated change room, ready to perform, 5 songs prior to their dance or 10 minutes before show start time. When dancers arrive, they must report (verbally check in) with the volunteer, as not all volunteers know all the kids. Volunteers will then be able to confirm attendance and get them organized and to backstage. We don’t want anyone to miss their performance so please don’t be late. If dancers are not present and ready when their group is taken backstage, they will miss their performance, as the volunteers do not have time to go looking for dancers.
EXCEPTION: Boogie Babies - your dancers will not meet in the changeroom but will be called up to the stage within the auditorium when it’s their turn to dance.
Volunteers are in each change room with responsibilities to organize each class. They are not there to babysit so it’s important that you do not leave young dancers (Primaries and under) unattended until 5 songs prior to their dance or when volunteers begin lining them up and getting them ready to be brought backstage. Then you can head to your seat with time to watch their performance.
Parents are not permitted backstage unless your dancer is a Boogie Baby/Mini Mover/Kinder Acro/Tiny Tapper and do not feel comfortable without you. Know that their teachers will be with them on stage.
A volunteer will bring your dancer back to their change room after they have performed, where you need collect them as quickly as possible. Again, volunteers in the changerooms are not there to monitor unattended dancers so we ask that you are there as soon as you can exit the auditorium (if not right after their song then the next one).
Once the dancers return to the change rooms, they need to quickly get ready for their next dance (if applicable). If they cannot get ready on their own, please ensure you meet them in the change room to assist them.
If your dancer is not in any more dances, please change as quickly as possible and return to your seat in the audience to cheer on the rest of the dancers (or leave if you are not staying). This helps reduce the congestion and confusion in the change room. Again, the volunteers are not there to monitor the kids so we ask that you meet them as soon as you can.
Parents/spectators are not allowed to enter/leave the auditorium during performances – doors will only be open between songs.
It’s strongly encouraged that you do not eat or drink in your costumes. Either remove your costume or cover it with your own clothing prior to eating or drinking (and stick to less messy food).
Where should you get your dancer ready?
Boogie Babies to Primary: boardroom to the right of the main college entrance
Juniors & Intermediate: boardroom across from the men’s restroom, near backstage
Seniors: changeroom below stage
Boys: if a change is required, please use the boys bathroom and then check in with the appropriate aged changeroom manager (simply knock on the door for them to know you are there).
Change rooms are not co-ed, for any age range.
This means that male siblings must wait outside of the girls’ change room and vice versa.
Dads/men will not be permitted in the girls’ change room and vice versa.
We know there are many great men supporting their dancers but due to limited room use at this venue some families may need to utilize the bathrooms to change kids (if you have a boy and girl and no one else to watch one while you help the other). Simply work with the changeroom volunteers to make it easy for both of you.
Where you can, we encourage you to arrive with your dancer dressed for the stage.
Important
Stand back! Don’t stand in front or near the doors, inside or outside of the rooms. You may get smacked with a door when a dancer comes flying in to change quick for their next dance or hinder the ability to quickly get in and out.
Privacy! Please keep the change room doors closed so people can change without concern.
Quiet please! In and out of the change rooms, it’s important that there is no yelling. Volunteers may need to use their loud voices to organize dancers and if others are being loud, people may not hear the volunteer or the sound may carry to the stage.
No running or yelling in the hallway. People can actually hear you in the auditorium, plus see point above.
Clean up after yourselves. Don’t leave garbage behind, ensure you have all your belongings and be respectful of the space.
COSTUMES & HAIR
Hair:
Girls: low bun, middle part. If the hair is too short then please pin it to the side, off their face. If there is a hair accessory, put it to the right side. Check out this handy bun tutorial and 4 different ways to do a bun.
Boys: dancer's choice
Costumes: some items will be loaned by the studio. THESE PIECES BELONG TO THE STUDIO. If these items are not returned a fee will be charged to your account. It is your responsibility to return all loaned items before you leave the recital. Please do not damage or alter any of the items. If some costumes are too big, safety pins are permitted to use to tighten them if needed but please do not sew / cut any costumes.
For items the studio is providing, Riley will hand them out at the College from 12:30 to 1:30pm before the showcase and will collect them at intermission and after recital. You will find her in the lobby.
